We are delighted to share our 2025 new release dahlias with you!
Breeding new dahlia varieties known as 'cultivars' is a time consuming process. Common practice among dahlia breeders is to trial new cultivars for 3 seasons before naming and releasing them to the public. During this time MANY plants are discarded along the way before we can present to you those we have selected.
Over the past couple of years we have decided to move to a process of 4 years trial before releasing new varieties. We have made this decision in order to increase the quality of the dahlias we are releasing. During the trial period it is quite common to see deterioration.
Dahlia genetics can be unstable and unpredictable. Some dahlias can continue well for many years while other spontaneously deteriorate. We have found some dahlias have deteriorated in the 4th year after our release to the public. When this happens it is always disappointing. Trialing new dahlias for an additional year on the farm will enable us to ensure a higher standard in our new releases.
Continuing to grow our new releases for an additional year on the farm will also mean a larger initial release. This means we are able to offer a larger number of tubers for sale in the first year for more people to be able to access these lovely new cultivars.
Please note plant heights are approximate as they are affected by so many things within your own unique growing conditions such as soil, water, shade, wind, fertilizer, support and how often you cut the flowers. They are provided here as a guide only.
This year we have 9 new release dahlias to share with you.
We hope you enjoy this years selection:
Florelie Flamingo
A miniature decorative in shades of warm pink to peach across the season. Plants are extremely tall - in the top 3 tallest plants on our farm in 2025. Flowers are held on strong, straight but slender stems. Incredible for picking. Extremely productive across the season and consistent producers. Recommended for commercial cut flower production
Classification: Miniature decorative
Plant Height: Approx 180cm
Florelie Limonata
A miniature decorative in pale lemon. Flowers hold a tight center and have a long vase life. They also hold well on the plant. Blooms sit at a lovely angle on the stems and are well attached. Cut deep into the plant on the first flush of flowers to encourage more flowers and better stems for cutting. Since our journey into cut-flower production we have been frustrated by the lack of more upward facing dahlias for bouquet making. This is a great dahlia for bouquet making.
Classification: Miniature decorative
Plant Height: Approx 150cm
Florelie Lizzie Lou
A miniature decorative in medium pink. Flowers hold a tight center and have a long vase life. Blooms sit on a lovely angle on the stems and are well attached. This is a productive and reliable bloomer for commercial production of cut flowers. Highly recommended for cut flower growers.
Classification: Miniature decorative
Plant Height: Approx 150cm
Florelie Mandarin
A miniature decorative in golden orange with a red flush at the center of the bloom. Plants begin flowering early in the season with numerous flowers ready for harvest at the same time on the one plant. Lovely straight stems for harvesting. Early season blooms have more orange tones with a red flush toward the center of the bloom. Later season blooms are more golden yellow.
Classification: Miniature decorative
Plant Height: Approx 150cm
Florelie Meagan
An informal small decorative in a bright barbie pink.
Beautiful wavy-petaled blooms are eye catching in the field and vase. One of the most complimented blooms at our farm events in 2025. The large flowers are borne on strong stems at a useful angle for floral design. The flower shape is very similar to Carlos Watermelon. The wavy petals of Florelie Meagan beautifully complement more formal dahlias in bunches and bouquets
Flowers hold a tight center and have a good vase life. Popular with our florists.
Classification: Small decorative
Plant Height: Approx 120cm
Florelie Nectar
An informal miniature decorative in warm pale orange. Productive plants producing blooms held strongly on a contrasting darker stem. Not recommended for the show bench. Suitable for cut flower production.
Classification: Miniature decorative
Plant Height: Approx 120cm
Florelie Nymph
A miniature decorative in a cool lavender-pink.
Florelie Nymph is an extremely vigorous and productive dahlia with a shrub-like growth habit. Flowers are prolific and plants are covered in a mass of flowers during peak season. We recommend you cut deep into the plant for best stem length and flower production.
Classification: Miniature decorative
Plant Height: Approx 120cm
Florelie Origami
A miniature decorative with magenta on the front of the petals and a contrasting pale reverse. The contrasting colour on each side of the petals gives the flowers the unique appearance of being made of folded paper - hence the name 'Origami'. Plants are sturdy and shrub like. Stems can be quite thick so it is more suitable as a garden/display variety rather than for commercial cut flowers.
Classification: Miniature decorative
Plant Height: Approx 120cm
Florelie Vendetta
A miniature decorative in a true red.
Flowers are produced on a good angle. Early season blooms can have a 'green eye' due to the high petal count of these blooms. As the season progresses the green eye disappears and they hold their center much later than other varieties. This makes them a standout performer for late season cut flower production. Flowers are sturdy and have a great vase life.
Classification: Miniature decorative
Plant Height: Approx 120cm
We hope you enjoy this year's new release cultivars and look forward to seeing them blooming in your garden in the future.
